I try to keep some milkweed growing in an inconspicious area in the back yard. Once the monarchs lay their eggs and the little caterpillars emerge the plants are eaten to the nubs.
I don't often actually see a seed pod. I hope to start some pipe vines this year and another passion-flower vine for the gulf fritillarys, zebra long-wings and pipe-vine swallowtails.

The seed pods are really neat! I love how you captured the little "hairs". I don't think I've ever seen the seed pods either. I hope we'll get pictures of the caterpillars!
What a crisp and clear photo, the colors are pretty!
What a cool idea and what a wonderful image - love the clarity and the details - I am waiting for pics of the new butterflies!

So that is why they call food Grub, you grow Grub Grub, good onya. Nice colour and the texture of the seeds is great.
Very nice! I love those seed pods when they open like that. They can float on a good wind for miles. I used to pull them from the pasture, but they're the only thing Monarchs will eat, and they are getting less common, due to herbicide use on farms. I leave them be now. Nature needs every little help we can give her!
That is such a great idea. I need to plant some flowers and things to attract butterflies.
It is great that you plant flowers that attract the butterflies. They need all the help they can get. This snap is great and detailed. Good contrasts and colors too.
I think milk pod seeds are my favorite seed! Great photo.
Beautiful shot! Love all the details you've captured and the vivid colors. That pod looks beautiful!
Great idea! Butterflies can use all the help they can get. I love the pods too. Used to collect them when I was a kid. Neat photo.
I like milkweed shots. Yours is great. Can't wait to see the butterflies.
Lots of detail, lovely shot and good on you for planting a feed lot.
Super shot, so crisp and clear. Nice colours as well.
the warmth of the colours + the elusive seed pod capture = SUPER SHOT! I love it!
A kindred spirit! I, too, have planted natives in order to boost our bird and butterfly population. This is a great photo of this plant!
As a kid we used to get the caterpillars and feed them milkweed and then watch them form the caccoon and then a new life. All in a shoe box. Great shot.
Cool. I look forward to seeing your butterfly images later in the season. Nice shot.
So nice - the delicate little fuzzy fur is wonderful.
